INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENTS
Construction on a new power station and wind farm in Coral Bay will commence in late November 2006. The completion of this project is due mid 2007. There are plans for 3 wind turbines.
Water supply in Coral Bay
The Water Corporation is making good progress on Coral Bay's new drinking water supply. The contract to build a reverse osmosis desalination plant has been awarded to Adelaide based company - Osmoflo. The new plant will produce 200 kilolitres of drinking water a day but the capacity could be upgraded to 400 kilolitres a day if there is sufficient demand. The current daily drinking water demand for Coral Bay is between 30-85 kilolitres a day. Expected completion around December 2007.
New boating facility in Coral Bay
Work has started on the Monck Head Boat ramp 1.5km south of Coral Bay. Developments include:
- Construction of an island with a service jetty, two boat ramps and a finger jetty linked to the mainland by a temporary causeway.
- A car and trailer parking facility for 100-200 vehicles, north of Monck Head
- Construction to seal standard of an access road to link the car park with Banksia drive about 1.2km
- Bringing Banksia drive (from the intersection at Coral Bay Rd to the boating facility access road intersection) up to seal standard
